Louise Stewart

Louise Stewart works in a variety of mediums mainly acrylic paint, with the addition of adding glue to the paint to create a shine and add more thickness. She also uses inks and water colours mainly as a base layer before incorporating the acrylic paint. Her work focus on the movement of the mind specifically during dreams, using hands to create the sense of people trying to break down the dream in to what is fiction, memories and desires. Using limited colours and tones as well as using unconventional colours for skin, adds to the idea of dreams being confusing and mysterious. This influence of limited colour stems from looking at Abstract Expressionists such as Mark Rothko, who recently have also inspired her drawing practice to only draw shapes and lines not figures.
